7 Chatbase alternatives, compared

SiteGPT, Chatling and DocsBot are the closest swaps for Chatbase, chat widgets trained on your site and files. Lyro by Tidio, Fin by Intercom and Botpress suit teams that also want live chat, a helpdesk or flows of their own. Actually Asked, ours, answers from the same kind of content in a FAQ on the page, not a chat window.

Chatbase is an AI agent that answers customers in a chat bubble or a help page on your site, and over email, phone, WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram. It learns from files, a crawl of your website, text, questions and answers you write, Notion, and past Zendesk or Salesforce tickets. Its free plan deletes an agent after 14 days without use.

People look for an alternative when they want a different channel, a person who can take over, a helpdesk they already pay for, or answers that don't live in a chat window at all.

Actually Asked

Ours

An AI FAQ that answers visitors' questions in the page, from your own sources, and adds the questions asked most to the FAQ on its own.

Visitors see the questions asked most, already answered, before they think to ask. A question of their own is answered under the FAQ, and any sentence on the page can be highlighted and asked about. When several visitors ask the same thing, it joins the FAQ on its own. There's no live chat: when your sources don't cover a question, the visitor is pointed to your contact page and can leave an email for you to answer. Every Monday you get an email of what your pages couldn't answer.

When it fits

Choose it when most of what visitors ask is the same few questions before they buy, book or sign up, and you'd rather answer each one once, in the page, where everyone sees it. Choose one of the chatbots below if you need live chat, actions such as order lookups, or answers on WhatsApp and Messenger.

2

SiteGPT

A chatbot trained on your website, files and YouTube videos, the closest like-for-like swap for Chatbase.

It answers only from the content you give it. A visitor can hand the conversation to a person, who replies from the dashboard or the iPhone app, and it collects leads and sends them to email or a CRM.

3

Lyro by Tidio

Tidio's AI agent, inside its live chat and helpdesk, answering from your support content.

When Lyro can't answer, or a customer asks for a person, it hands the conversation to your team, or opens a ticket when no one is online. On Shopify it can check an order's status, preview a cart and check whether a product is in stock. We set Tidio beside Actually Asked topic by topic on our Tidio comparison.

4

Fin by Intercom

Intercom's AI agent for support, sales and ecommerce, which answers and also takes actions such as refunds.

Fin runs multi-step procedures, such as updating an account or processing a refund, and hands off to your team with the conversation's context. Intercom bills it by outcome.

5

Botpress

A platform for building AI agents, in a visual builder or by describing them in plain language.

6

DocsBot

AI agents built around your documentation and past support tickets.

It has no live chat of its own. A visitor who needs a person is handed on through a support link or a helpdesk such as Help Scout, Zendesk or Intercom.

7

Chatling

A no-code AI support agent with a web widget and one inbox for every channel.

Live chat and hand-off to a person come on paid plans; a team member who joins sees a summary of the conversation so far.

Where answers appear
A floating chat, inline in the page or full screen; WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram and Messenger on paid plans
Where answers come from
Your website (it crawls up to 1,000 pages), a sitemap, PDF, DOCX and TXT files, text, questions and answers, and Zoho, Zendesk and Notion

Yes, with no credit card

When it's the better choice

Choose Chatling if you want a no-code bot on a free plan that can float, fill a page or sit inline, with live chat and WhatsApp once you upgrade.

How to choose

  • A chat widget much like Chatbase's: SiteGPT, Chatling or DocsBot. Each learns from your site and files, and each can also sit inline in the page.
  • People answering beside the AI: Lyro by Tidio, or Chatling on a paid plan.
  • A helpdesk you already pay for: Fin, if it's Intercom, Zendesk or Salesforce.
  • Flows of your own across many channels: Botpress.
  • The same few questions, again and again: a FAQ in the page answers each one once, for everyone who reads it, and search engines read it too. That's what Actually Asked does, and our AI chatbot comparison sets the two approaches side by side.
